Using the shared management service, each organization has a fundraising specialist visiting them regularly– because management is a continuous process. We typically begin with an overall assessment of your management needs, and then begin to focus on areas of improvement. During this process, you tell us what you feel are your most pressing needs, and we tell you what we can do to help. In other words, we find the solution to your problems together.

Given the nature of the work, there is no “typical” day in the life of the shared professional. The management specialist, through careful training, develops a routine which usually allows him to visit 2 or 3 organizations each day. At one, he may be creating a set of job descriptions for the board of directors; on the next, he may be meeting with the Program committee to discuss how to run a more effective program, and on his next, he may be meeting with the Executive Director to discuss employee benefits.

Throughout the day, he places and receives a wide variety of calls related to future appointments, providing suggestions on nonprofit management practices, advice on organizational structures, or working with the administrative assistant to find the most cost effective way to handle an upcoming mailing. Evenings are generally consumed with routine business needs and planning. Each day is indeed hectic, but is also rewarding since it is task driven, and accomplishments, or at least progress, can be seen on most every front almost every day.
